Cartogrophy Examples (Lab 1)

ISARITHMIC MAP

Isarithmic maps are maps that depict smooth continuous phenomena like precipitation. This map depicts the maximum average high temperature in Ohio between 1971-2000 with darker shades of red representing higher temperature and lighter shades representing cooler temperatures.

CHOROPLETH MAP

Choropleth maps show statistical data in predefined regions by coloring or shading them. This map shows the population of Hispanics and Latinos by county in the state of Florida. The darker the shade of green the higher percentage of Hispanics and Latinos within the population.

DOT DENSITY MAP

A map where dots are used to track the occurrence of specific phenomena or a number of specific phenomena. This map shows the population density in Europe in the year 2000. The thicker the concentration of dots the higher the population in that area.

PROPORTIONAL SYMBOL MAP

Proportional symbol maps use specific symbols that vary in size to represent different data from different areas or locations on the map. The symbols in this map are used to represent the number of white people killed by lynching between 1882 and 1968. The larger the symbol the more deaths by lynching in that state.

Image of my happy place (Lab 1)

This is my parent's property in Dade City, FL. Trooper's Run is a creek that my brother and I played in growing up and the Osprey Tree is a dead tree that ospreys regularly lay their eggs.
